The entrance to this trail is in my town and, for years, I helped clear the lower part of the trail up to a campsite operated by the Adirondack Mountain Club. I truly regret leaving these beautiful mountains and very sorry so many people will never get the change to experience them. The mountains are far more merciless than many hikers have guessed and the stories of rescuing bodies is fairly common. Temperatures can plunge 60F in a matter of hours catching non-locals, even world hikers, by surprise. The sky over Marcy is the most remarkable color of pale blue when the sunrise is captured in -40F temperatures.
