With reference to the Nefarium’s Oct. 29th News and Views about new societies in space: SpaceX declares independence: Elon Musk’s firm says they will not recognize Earth laws in planned Mars colony and says ‘free planet’ will adopt ‘self-governing principles’ https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-8897601/Elon-Musks-SpaceX-says-not-recognize-Earth-laws-planned-Mars-colony.html

    • Interesting catch! I guess “self-governing principles” means “whatever pleases the corporation shall have force of law.”

    • I thought of the exact same Nefarium discussion when this news dropped, Dr. Farrell seems to always be ahead of the curve. I can’t tell if Musk has been around the anarchist/utopian Nuttyfornia types too much and actually believes what he is saying. I don’t see how the colony can be self-sufficient without serious terraforming. Maybe the angle is water/food/oxygen aren’t issues if everyone is simply a consciousness uploaded into a robot. It is interesting that he is openly talking about an actual breakaway civilization. I can’t help but think there is another sinister angle here too, along the lines of rich elites like Epstein getting up to funny business on his private jets in international airspace or Maxwell and her submarines in international waters where nations’ laws aren’t “in effect.”

    • Also, how exactly is Musk’s Martian commune that follows “self-governing principles based on good faith” without any outside help or supply chain supposed to defend itself when the CCP’s Total Command Economy Space Program starts expanding on Mars and decides they are in the way?

    • There may be other folks “out there” who will not welcome Mr X with open arms 🙂

    • All this reminds me of the Alien movie series with Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, where the “corporation” who funds the space flights call the shots and make decisions based on money not humankind. The “corporation” plants AI crew members on the ships to carry-out the “corporations” agenda.
