Are you sure it was Dr. Farrell who did it? Historically, it has been a moderator algo that the site uses that has moded/deleted posts in the past. I’ve seen several comments indirectly alluding to this, but that simply doesn’t sound like his style at all. This site has been picking up momentum with a LOT of new accounts rolling in, I’m not techy enough to draw a logical conclusion, but perhaps some shenanigans is being pulled to censor content on the site via 3rd party?
I’m fairly techy, and I know this site. I can assure you it wasn’t Dr. Farrell. My strong suspicion is that it’s a WordPress plugin, the web hosting service, something to do with the WordPress database, or some combination of the above. Less likely, IMO, but still possible is some kind of outside interference.
Agree. WP plug-ins can be clunky, especially if you don’t keep them updated. I was also thinking it could be a hosting/server issue(s). With the increased activity/content being posted in the forum and on the main blog, perhaps the site is in need of some added horse power under the hood?
Same thoughts here. Upgrading server capacity can be very pricey, though. Given what I know about writing and book publishing–and how little it pays–it wouldn’t surprise me at all if upgrading server capacity and paying for extra web development time just weren’t feasible. FWIW, I just paid for an annual membership, finally. Not sure I’ll have the budget to renew, but I’ll deal with that in a year! I’d encourage anyone who’s a regular user of the site to make a donation or become a paying member if you possibly can.
