What I have loved about Giza has been the marvelous opportunity to learn. Back in the day new Gizars would go back and listen to old vidchats, possibly even in order, view webinars and white papers and read Joseph’s books best case, also in order. Members of the community would then post and discuss with a unique understanding of the very big picture that Joseph’s work allows us to glimpse. I miss that.

    • Conned: I get what you are saying. I am an older newbie and have stepped through most of the getting up speed stuff. It is challenging to make way for such a huge increase in subscribers and God knows Joseph has needed the increase in subscribers. I try to be patient, but things aren’t working as well – IMO. As a result, I am cautious about clicking buttons and question the changes. Plus, I haven’t received emails since the changes. When I didn’t get the survey, I was still getting emails – not now. I am waiting for things to get worked out. (have MIS people in my family). Nevertheless, I think as a newbie, I was better off to getting up to speed the old way. It allowed me to analyze, review, and evaluate things. Critical thinking is so important now.

      • I miss that too Conned. I remember thinking several weeks ago that the GDS forum looks too much like my [political] twitter feed. Maybe with the upcoming site design there will be different chat options. Hoping things will change for the better in the new year. Needing a mental sanctuary!

          • I’m hoping for that too. All the current political commentary does remind me of *insert random social media system name here*. I hope the new forum takes account of that, makes space for it, but makes space “over there somewhere”. It’s time to get back to the bigger picture stuff of Dr. Farrell’s oeuvre and discuss that more often, in my opinion.

          • If I understand correctly, there are plans for a monthly, shorter open vidchat vs the bi-monthly member-only longer vidchats.

            • I think you have a membership. Don’t we have to to be on the forum, comment, etc?

              • You can listen to Joseph with GeorgeannHughes on her The Byte Show. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6QjSDphC-bLRwWZsr9yx3g.

                • A community is anchored in something. Giza has been anchored by Joseph’s work. It seems to me to becoming ‘just another place’ people post whatever. My two cents? Do some homework, integrate yourself into the existing community. Welcome aboard.

                    • I think people are forgetting that Dr. F does a good deal of public interviews, plus a podcast here and written essays. The comments on these provide a lot of insight and background on his work and community repsonses to it. I am appreciative of how much he makes public. I listen to him all the time. Of course more would always be better!

                    • Tired of the politics too. Do a quick glance daily but have nothing to contribute. Feel more and more disconected.

                        • Yep. Truth be told I’m not sure Joseph will enjoy and benefit from members ‘just’ looking for a forum for bright people. Surely his ongoing work will benefit from conversations with those conversant with his body of work.

                        • Amen, Conned…

                          • There are some gems in the previous vidchats webinars etc., and don’t underestimate the value of the old Byte Show interviews, that can be found on the internet.

                            • Part of the problem in my opinion is the socialmedia styled message board. Its impossible to discuss topics because they are lost in a few days. I would love a old style messageboard with different sections where you can discuss different topics and keep everything organized, like there was a few years ago. Btw the old vidchats are gold.

                                • I didnt use the old topical forum. It was too interesting to see the weaving of RELEVANT ideas in the main forum. I’m not lamenting the loss of opportunity to dicuss. IMO we had plenty of opportunity to discuss; comments, pms and the drafting of intelligent well informed vidchat questions. I’m lamenting the ‘run of the mill’ newsie quality of posts.

                                • Maybe it’s because I don’t use social media, but I’ve found value in hearing the “alternative” but intelligent take that Gizars tend to have on current events, geopolitics, and the potential covert agendas involved. Those are things Dr. Farrell seems to have some interest in, even if there isn’t always a particular book that obviously and directly relates to such-and-such an event. Having said that, I have no problem abiding by whatever the rules, or the Gizar consensus, may be.

(I would also hazard a guess that 2020 has been an unusual year for this forum, not only in that the subscriber base has grown explosively, but also in that the quantity, type, and implications of world events have been without precedent in living memory, keeping current events more at the front of people’s minds than they might otherwise have been.)
