… We are truly sorry Mr. Franklin. We were unable to keep it.

    • Was it ever ours? It was theirs demonstrably but was it ever ours.

        • Well… I’ve have said over and over that the Philadelphia 1787 constitutional convention was a coup d’etat by high finance.

            • Not so long ago, I would have not nearly understood that point of view. Having recently read the Mayflower Compact, I’d have to say ding ding ding.
Revolutions are always easier if you get to choose the opposition.

              • That would make an interesting book ….

            • If one is kept from knowing what it is they won’t miss it….and if what we now have is a democracy I flunked civics class.

                • But this is a democracy, Billy. This is what a (liberal) democracy is, or it’s what it inevitably leads to. I believe what we’re missing, or maybe, longing for, is what Plato, then Aristotle, then what Cicero describes as the “Res Publica”.

                    • I can further hear all those grouchy old school Federalists saying, “See, we told you. Those States are just too dang powerful. First it was that ever ill-defined Assumption of Powers thing, you know, that ole’ Police Powers thing that we never chose to define. And now this, my God.”

                      • If there’s a democracy or a democratic republic lurking somewhere in the District of Columbia, I haven’t seen it. Now, an oligarchy, yep–got it in spades.

You can’t have a “res publica” without a few Ciceros, and I haven’t seen many of them roaming around either.

                          • Well, I’ll stand by my democracy comment: we’re living in it. Though, voting machines seem to throw a wrench in the whole inevitably doomed machine. A “democratic republic” seems more of an oxymoron to me, but anyhow. And yes, we are certainly lacking a few good Ciceros these days, sadly.

                      • Aptly put, Scarmoge.

                        • I have yet to hear the Fat Lady sing.

                            • The Benedict Arnold Brigade has spoken, the Courts have all forsaken us, and spoken. Mitch and many others are giving up because, in his words, “It would damage our Democracy. We would enter a death spiral.” Mere allegations from the subservient side.

I suppose for the ‘time being’ we have to ‘make do’ with good ole Mitch McConnell’s sob story he gave us at the Senate podium today. Almost good enough to make a person ‘choke-up’, or something to that affect. Goodbye DJT!!! Nice to know ‘ya, but don’t let the door ‘hit’ you in the butt! We gotta ‘save’ our Democracy! If ya don’t ‘stand-down’ now we’ve got that 25th Amendment ‘thing-gy’ we could enact.

Wait a minute, this is supposed to be a Republic, with a Bill of Rights. Well, if you insist so much, keep in mind there are those PD’s. You know, the ones that might matter, if you read them.

                                • Listened to hearing live yesterday. During speeches leading up to the attack, kept hearing our political leaders repeatedly refer to our country as a democracy. Thought that was strange – they of all people should know this is a Republic. Now I wonder, since after all the revelations yesterday, perhaps we are no longer a Republic and haven’t been one for a while.

                              • They trust nobody so they probably have her bound and gagged somewhere. On a brighter note, that may qualify her for a vaccine sooner! 😀

                              • Only truth left to be revealed now is to learn whether or not the military is corrupt. Will the Oath be honored?

                                • Quote of the day…

                                  • had a good run. Then…splat.
