Somebody asked recently here about double entry accounting. Here is a good book: “Double Entry. How the Merchants of Venice Created Modern Finance”, Jane Gleeson-White, 2011. Prefaced with 1968 speech by Bobby Kennedy on the inhuman criteria of GDP (then called GNP).

Useful to flesh out some of the Financial Vipers material, though it misses out the Templars (you can’t have everything).

I found Ruggero Marino’s Christopher Columbus, the Last Templar (Rochester, VT: Destiny Books, 2007)–referenced by JPF somewhere–an interesting supplement to the Templar part of the story.
