You Now Have a Shorter Attention Span Than a Goldfish (via Richard Grove)

    • And if you dont already know this,,well,, you havent been paying close enough attention. LOL. It’s pretty sad but true, one piece of evidence might be the fact that members of groups like Giza can see a little farther to the horizon ( understatement intended) than say, people who focus on what Beyonce is up to. Not only is this obviously due to social media addiction /entrainment but largely due to the sad state of affairs general education has been in for quite some time ( see John Taylor Gato/Richard Grove) and then there’s the epidemic of horrible parenting ( or the complete lack thereof) to boot , pretty much a losing proposition . I say this with not even a drop in the old bucket of traditional teaching experience of some Giza members much less say JPF or Dr. DeHart ….All I ever did was give private music lessons and a few years of high school and first and second year college tutoring and I saw a nightmare right off the bat.

      • Ironic this study was done my Micro$oft, one of the main culprits behind the cause.

The idea that our brains have already started to evolve to a more digital age is interesting, goes towards Musk’s assertion that we are already “cyborgs” in the sense that we use smartphones, computers, and the internet as an extension of our cognition (although I personally wholeheartedly disagree with his assertion the coming transhumanism is a foregone conclusion and could be in any way beneficial).

One part of the article popped out at me, that people find it more “difficult to filter out irrelevant stimuli,” is this not one of the symptoms of spectrum autism disorder?

          • I love this part: “Microsoft theorized that the changes were a result of the brain’s ability to adapt and change itself over time and a weaker attention span may be a side effect of evolving to a mobile Internet.” Really? EVOLVING??

            • And quite a few other disorders also Dash. To put it simply it’s what happens when your brain gets scrambled for whatever reason.

            • Reminds me of a book published in 2019 on this very subject, unfortunately not in English, titled La Civilisation du poisson rouge (“The Goldfish Civilization”) https://www.grasset.fr/livres/la-civilisation-du-poisson-rouge-9782246819295.
