  Interesting. Charts like this also provide a good illustration as to how power and wealth are preserved through the centuries in addition to the establishment of political alliances.

  that was a trip! enjoyed it. really brings home how intermarried they really are/were. I guess the British matrilineal line Garsenda line will stop with William unless somehow Diana has a connection.

    As the authors said, this chart is only partial and was quickly compiled by clicking web links, but genealogy is full of twists and turns.

  Who’d have thought of tracing nobility back through the matrilineal line?! Very intriguing–especially since mitochondrial DNA is inherited from one’s mother. I wonder if there are other “hidden” family connections that would turn up if other nobles’ and notables’ family trees were traced back through the matrilineal line…

  This is intriguing, really great material, thank you for sharing! So many powerful rulers from one line definitely points to something going on behind the scenes. Matrilineal lines would be a great way to obscure a “hidden house.”
