I hate to be contrarian, but I read this an entirely different way. In fact, it’s almost as if they’re taking the Jee-Had-Ee meme back out of the toolbox. Today: “Look at all these dire new threats!” Tomorrow: “To protect you from these threats, we must curtail your rights and impose restrictions.” The article even throws in the old standby canards: the internet being used by bad actors (i.e., they must police it) and Russia pulling dangerous shenanigans (i.e., we must impose sanctions). IMO they do indeed know their world is crumbling, and they’re trying to use the same tired, old playbook to shore it up.

Could be, but that headline “the world is crumbling” begs the question: whose world? The Anglosphere rulers are lashing out madly against everything and everybody, gone is the icy technocratic rationality that seemed to govern them until recently.

I agree with you there. They do seem to be in a panic or frenzy.
