  I saw a story on that awhile back; sent to JPF. I thought it stunning–and very alchemical, with the merging of mineral and plant. Now, assuming this tech works, think a few steps ahead: How long before the decorative foliage in smart cities is equipped with sensors that alert the police when someone walks by who is… oh, I don’t know… emitting a chemical signature that shows they’ve ingested a forbidden substance (like meat, in future!), or that indicates anger, suspicion, or something associated with predisposition to committing a crime? Then maybe plants that detect CO2 levels and cut off power to your part of town when its CO2 quota is exceeded. See where I’m going with this?
