Things are upside down. We have walked from reality to something else.
― Walker Percy
… in its own beneficent (the word “beneficent” here is a carefully chosen word) way The Cosmos has given us, en masse, if we will but take it, and not raise our shields against it, an opportunity. We might choose to reply to the opportunity in the manner of Antonio Salieri in Amadeus with a snide “Grazie Signore” or we might instead respond as Jack “Binx” Bolling in Walker Percy’s “The Moviegoer”. An aside … Walker Percy (about 50 years or so ahead of the time of “his” irruption) was onto something in his novels particularly in “Love in the Ruins”. And for something related to an idea occasionally bought up during Giza Cawfee Tawlks see Giorgio Agamben – The Highest Poverty: Monastic Rules and Form-of-Life, Stanford University Press, 2013. … and if one is so inclined … Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Philosophical Investigations and On Certainty. All of this to say Rheba is that possibly what has been removed (hence the feeling of what is happening being that of suddenly encountering something not real), and again I would argue it a benevolent act of the Cosmos although it may not seem so at present, is the veneer (or veil if you like) of everydayness. I would bet that almost all of us share your observation. And I can hear it now … so stop your tut-tutting BlakeC … I am keenly aware that within 24 hours I have contradicted my self of yesterday, but such is the predicament of, at least, this fallible man.
Although I am feeling ONcertain about this( or is it that?)
