At the insistence of “One Of The Nine” Dr’s Scarmoge, I have just finished an excellent book by Walker Percy titled: “Symbols And Existence” In light of the fact that I never read into any one topic from a single perspective, I have created a new “tranche of selections”, based on this read: I would recommend any of the titles from this list to any reader interested in Semiotics. Culture Creation, Social Engineering, Meaning Making and just how we as humans might find a better way to navigate the treacherous epistemic battleground spawned by Post Modernity and Technocratic Elite.
We are all well read enough, and clear enough in our thinking to be able to point to any of the endless numbers of the various manipulations of our lives, our thoughts, our feelings and our culture. To know we have a problem is one thing, to understand how these manipulations were formed, and then of necessity, array ourselves with the tools to tactically counter these measures, has become not a luxury, but fundamental to our survival. I’d recommend starting by taking the first title under your careful examination, and then adding in a title or two from the others selections, depending on what catches your eye. I should warn you , that the book, “Invoking the Beyond” is as fabulous as it is lengthy, (coming in at 1100+ pages, but the Collins Brothers, have produced something extraordinary, and it took them over a decade to do it, I shall now share the list with you, and bid you as Dr. Farrell often says, “Divine Protection, Wisdom and A Timely Measure of Courage”.
1. “Symbols and Existence/A Study In Meaning” By Walker Percy – Mercer Press 2019
2. “The Correspondence Of Shelby Foote & Walker Percy: Edited By Jay Tolson – Double Take Two/Norton Books 1997
7: “Simulacra And Simulation” By: Jean Baudrillard – University Of Michigan Press 1994 (Definitely a fascinating re-read given the times and the technologies in play)We must do more than “two minutes of hate” or “a false sense of having resisted, simply by having pointed out the the sky is falling. Truly, “The Axe Must Be Laid. at the Root of The Tree”. It is what we will choose to do, not what we know that will define our legacy, if we are to have one.
