Well then… this is alarming to say the least and almost if I was to say panic mode. There are currently NO United States Navy aircraft carriers deployed. This has in my memory never happened and my speculation is that we have been rendered by design utterly helpless this New Years Eve weekend by the outgoing lamb duck president. I have served in the Navy and I may be wrong but I can’t recall when this has ever happened!! Combine this and the POTUS throwing out all of the Russian diplomats and other odd behavior appears to be a set up to me! The headline is misleading but we have no battle group at sea and I have verified this through numerous sources. I smell a rat! Nothing to see here! Move along!

Well, aircraft carriers are now sitting ducks for the newest generation weapons, and are just useful for “showing the flag”
I agree somewhat. As history dictates we usually fight the current war with the last wars weapons. This argument for the battleship was used as aircraft carriers came into their own in air ops during WW2. I agree the next wars tech will be unmanned vehicles both in the air, on the ground and beneath the waves. Not to mention space and that frontier as as we see it today. However air power is still key and having 10 nuclear aircraft carriers to maintain the sea lanes for the entire planet. They not only show the flag but project forward power and often quell hostilities before they even start. They are such a presence in the world that China is now building a nuclear carrier of their own and plan to have as many as we do. There are certain weapons once battle tested become the mainstay of battle for long periods of time. The aircraft carrier is one such weapon, like the submarine and battle rifle. To write it off as a sitting duck may be premature but it does have its weaknesses just like any other weapon. Our biggest weakness is the men and women who lead our military into the future, for they may not have the ability to see into the future as other past genius like Billy Mitchell who was an opponent of air power over the battleship and British and German Generals who formed the modern treatise on tank warfare which is still used today. Just my two cents.
