Retired UK Supreme Court justice Jonathan Sumption makes some excellent points on the effect of CV1984 policy on society and on the cultural values that allow Western democracies to exist. A few excerpts quoted in this article. (His stance on vaxxes is shockingly inconsistent with everything else he says, but much of the rest is very insightful.) In listening to the interview, I kept thinking, “These effects are exactly the kind of thing that could get Western societies to accept Herr Schwab’s dystopia.”

    • “On What The Government Should Learn”
His statements on this topic have some logic if those that hold government positions chose to be in government so they could have a beneficial impact on society. That seems like a rather naive view. There may be a few that entered the ranks with that sentiment in mind but it is quite apparent that the majority signed up to further their own self interest without a thought for the ‘public good’.

        • True enough. I’m not sure he meant he believed the government actually would learn anything or act in good faith. Still, it’s surprising to see somebody who couldn’t be more “establishment” than a British Supreme Court judge speak out in this way publicly. I have to give him credit for that.
