There’s been no small amount of interest in the Forum recently about the thinking of Martin Heidegger, NOT his Politics, NOT his willingness to embrace the rise of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party.( that’s Nazi’s by the way for those of you who are fanboys of the idea – that Socialism is the cure for all the evils that accompany the totalitarian urge) What I am pointing out is: His Thinking. That’s what the point of engaging with Philosophy is of course, to sit with another individuals thinking and to consciously engage the mind towards actual ends, which gee golly whilz… Batman, needn’t be accompanied by a Marketing Campaign on the Interwebs, (or in this Forum for that matter). And finally before I post my recommended reading list for engaging with Heidegger, let me also say, that looking someone up on Wikipedia is NOT the same thing as doing your own “due diligence” – a term that seems to get thrown around FAR too easily in the Alternative Research Community, (or what’s left of it anyway.) At the Very Least, start with the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, and then, oh I don’t know, at least READ THE MAN in his own words, from his own books. OK with that out of the way, for those of you that are so inclined, here then is an alternative to watching someone with the IQ of a door stop – read off a teleprompter – and say the exact same thing that’s being said simultaneously on similar throwaway “news programs” all across the country, (funny coincidence THAT now isn’t it?)
Ok so, get our your library card, put on your big boy pants, turn off that mass censorship platform that belongs to the company who once famously touted as their motto: “Don’t Be Evil” [Yeah. OK. SURE.]
So here’s The List. The first five are Heidegger’s own titles, the balance have authors named of course..
1. Being and Time (must read)
2. The Matter Concerning Technology (must read)
3. Poetry Language And Thought (must read)
4. The Concept of Time (suggested and highly interesting)
5. The Metaphysical Foundation of Logic (recommended)6.Heidegger’s Contribution to Philosophy: An Introduction By: Daniela Vallega-Neu (helpful)
7. Martin Heidegger: A Political Life By Hugo Ott (if you want to actually examine his politics)Pick up a book people before weighing in on a topic with an opinion that was GIVEN to you.
Harumph.

I’m not much of a philosophy student, but I appreciate, and am impressed by, the effort and thought you put into what you’re sharing. (I remember an “intro to philosophy” course where, many years ago, I tried — quite in vain — to grasp what the likes of Kant, Heidegger, and Hegel were trying to say. A hopeless task, for me.)

With any of the Philosophers, it’s largely a matter of finding a way in, once you’re in you’ll get acclimated and find lots of things to bid you to go deeper. When it comes to Heidegger, I have a suggestion for you. There’s a podcast called, “Entitled Opinions” out of Stanford, helmed by one of my favorite Academics ever, Robert Pogue Harrison. Find that podcast, and locate any of the four podcasts he did with Andrew Mitchell out of Emory and you’ll find some extremely interesting content and more than enough, to get you hooked. Hope that helps.
