The Saker is always worth the time spent getting into his analysis of the situation. The US is willing to fight to the last Ukranian and the Ukies have truly taken leave of their senses… dangerous and sad. I have been to the Ukraine several times and even have some friends there so I feel quite upset by this.

Unfortunately, Ukraine [or the Ukraine, if you prefer] is merely a pawn caught in a clash between giants. In my view, the realpolitik of the situation is that Russia is no more going to give up Crimea, or let NATO put tanks in eastern Ukraine, than the U.S. is going to let Russia put nuclear missiles on the Texas border. Regardless of what anyone thinks of the Russian government, the U.S. is being very reckless in constantly provoking Russia this way, at least in the opinion of this American (some of whose ancestors are Ukrainian).
