Grocery shopping maskless has advantages….needed a few food items this morning, drove to my neighborhood HEB grocery store. (Face masks required sign still above the doorway)
Greeter asked if I wanted a mask—which is probably a job requirement. I replied no and asked him if he liked wearing his—no answer. Grabbed a hand carry basket and retrieved the few wanted items on my list. I headed for check out. Being Monday, evidently a popular shopping day after the weekend and close to the employees’ lunch hour, the checkout counters were few and with long lines at each. Nevertheless I stood in one but not exactly six feet away from everyone, to wait my turn. Well within a few minutes an employee came up to me to tell me an express line was being opened and to follow her, so I did. Not only did I experience a quick check out, but the express line checker had a bagger (one of the supervisors) for my groceries, which has ever happened at an express line for the three years I’ve shopped there. She left after my purchases were bagged. As I picked up my groceries and the clerk handed me the sales slip I asked him don’t you just love wearing a mask? He replies “Right”.
HEB and Walgreens has the same policy regarding customers without masks, let them in but get them out ASAP and avoid any confrontation incase they get physical or go mental on the employee. All the while I just thought I was getting great customer service, but I am! 😎
