Headline is a bit of a hyperbole! Speculation on an unlikely scenario . . . only if NASA brings the asteroid back to earth, which it isn’t planning to do. But interesting article anyway . . .
I’ve said several times on this website when Dr Farrel blogs about the Asteroid Mining business, that the problem is NOT going to be the logistical side of moving the Asteroid. It’ll be the explosion of current world economics when the materiel turns back up on Earth. How can you justify 80 dollars per tonne.. (http://www.indexmundi.com/commodities/?commodity=iron-ore) when a kazillion tonne asteroid turns up and floods the market with commodity? Precious metals. Smae probleme, they’re precious because they are rare. I would LOOOOVE to get back to a society and human experience where materiel is actually valued for its physical properties and we remember why gold is actually precious, and not because we’re greedy and like to have stuff that’s worth money. (was about to start a rant about spanish conquistadores and burning codecs….)
