    Sunday Funday!
Tough guy and mystery solver, Mike Tyson has recently advocated the use of psychedelic drugs for improved mental health joining such other unlikely advocates as actor/ladies man, Cary Grant and Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder, Bill Wilson.

“Now the boxing prodigy from Brooklyn is experiencing a career renaissance that he said is the result of psilocybin-powered mental and spiritual exploration.
“Everyone thought I was crazy, I bit this guy’s ear off,” an upbeat Tyson told Reuters, referring to his infamous 1997 fight against Evander Holyfield.

“I did all this stuff, and once I got introduced to the shrooms … my whole life changed.””

    • Over the past decade, the use of psychedelic drugs (particularly psilocybin) in a clinical setting has become more prevalent and with goid success.

      • MDMA (commonly called “extacy” except MDMA is pharmaceutical quality and “extacy” isn’t) has been sucessful in treating PTSD.

        • I wrote my Psychology 101 research paper on LSD-25 as a model for psychosis; mostly sourced from Czech psychologist, Stanislav Grof. It so happens, there is no predictable response to the extracted compound from the patient. The response is mostly dependent on the patient’s physiology/metabolism and (more importantly) their mental state. LSD-25 is completely metabolized from your system 15 mins after ingestion and the *side effect* is the “trip”. The “trip” you have is mostly dependent on your own subconscious mind.

          • And to prempt the fear mongering I expect to hear about LSD; if in fact LSD was an effective means of control and aided a sinister agenda, we’d see homless camps full of trippy hippies instead of junkies and meth heads.

              • Personally I found hashish a much better change agent then LSD.

                  • U. Michigan 1968-1972- other than Berkeley, The Happening. In fact, the Merry Pranksters pulled one off in our local alternative high school, 1971.

Again- Justa knew I could count on you, BB. I agree, BTW!

                  • This is not new information, however, it needs to be said: Pharmacia is from the Greek word φαρμακεία, transliterated pharmakeia, which means ‘sorcery’. Reminds me of the Hansel and Gretel story. Their discovery of a cottage built of gingerbread, cakes and candy. Oh.. and a witch with their best interests at heart. – or was it their hearts as her best interest.

Many of us have stories about “turning on, tuning in and dropping out”. There’s also plenty of PTSD results from the war stories of the “counter culture movement”. As the song says, “We won’t get fooled again” Oh wait, a little further on it says, “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”

                      • Grimoire means “grammer”. To cast a spell is too spell. The act of consciously writing something could be called an act of sorcery.

                        • Also, I’m referencing recent clinical studies performed by actual doctors. This post has nothing to do with the counter culure movemt of the 60’s (which are long over) outside of one’s own personal views being inflected on the subject.

                        • I’m personally thrilled that medical science has decided to revist psychedelic drugs. I feel that the 3 letter agencies were interested in LSD as a possible means of mind control etc and were met with frustration instead of success. It’s also possible that such substances are counter-productive to “their” plans and thats why LSD was scheduled as strictly as heroin.
