When I see the word dome I think of an area with fixed boundaries and I think of a book by Stephen King titled The Dome. I’ve never seen it used as a term to describe a weather event. All extreme weather seems to be called an event these days. Has anyone ever seen or heard the term “heat dome” before? Here’s a link where it has been used to give it some context.

Here in the southern US plains we regularly are told we are under a heat dome. I just remember this term used the last 5 years or so (could be longer as years kind of flit by now). The local weathermen draw a diagram showing the boundaries such as the jet stream, ocean moisture, cold wave, etc. As hot air rises, you get get a dome effect bound by the other forces. How much is man made and how much natural, Well, I just have speculations. Take care in the heat.
