RESPONSE:
… to paraphrase dialog from The Treasure of the Sierra Madre “Standards!, to g_d-da_n_d h_l_ with standards! We have no standards. In fact, we don’t need standards. I don’t have to show you any stinking standards, you g_d-d_m_ed cabrón and chinga tu youtube madre!” :-). If this post gets pulled it of course means that we must immediately cancel The Treasure of The Sierra Madre and other writings of B. Traven (whoever he was, possibly a.k.a. Ret Marut – by the way his mug shot looks uncannily like the actor Edward James Olmos. Vy iz eet alvays tha Germans? ), Humphrey Bogart, the director John Huston (this would of course include all of their films, any images of them, or any writings by or about them, if we are going to cancel then by g_d lets cancel. Oh yes, and since the film version of the novel was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” the Library of Congress must issue an immediate apology and burn all extant copies of the film in their holdings as to prevent future contamination that no mask could prevent, and immediately cease all operations. And in order to be logically consistent the Library of Congress must immediately cancel itself (this would of course mean the immediate extermin … er ah … immediate firi … er ah … “very significant downsizing” of all those employed by The Library of Congress and the immediate revocation and repayment of any and all retirement payments and benefits of all past and present employees, collective si … er ah … collective guilt you know).
Given our recent societal bents if we are going to “cancel” we should “cancel” in a way that would make Our Ol’ Saint Joe proud. All of the holdings of The Library of Congress should be donated to Dr. Joseph Farrell. A statue of Dr. Farrell should be erected on the Agor … er ah … on the National Mall in Washington D.C. and he should also be provided free meals for life in compensation for his unjust punishment for the crimes of not worshipping the gods, of corrupting the youth, and of the corruption of public mor … … er ah … the violation of community standards. Gee, where have I heard about this kind of thing before …
