Beautiful music. In the manner of Solomon controlling lesser spirits I use the musical resonances of works such as PAL as a means to banish the demon of “junk” music that is forced on to me in most public places. Assuming authority and inserting a musical image from antiquity into my modern life might actually be an analogical magic moving from the past into the future.
good point
I too often think of such music in this fashion, as banning the demons of mediocrity, the demons of “simplicity” and “modernity” and “originality”… so-called modern music, if it survives at all, will survive as a curiosity, to be listened to in academic courses as examples of “what people used to hear”. It will never possess the timelessness of this music.
