An interesting find of some correspondence of Alan Turing in an old filing cabinet.
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2017/aug/27/collection-letters-codebreaker-alan-turing-found-filing-cabinet-
Perhaps more interesting is the slant of The Gaurdian newspaper’s article covering it. Of all the items they highlight, they select Turing’s dislike for “America”.
Are they “messaging” something for the British Labor Party (for which they are often a mouthpiece)… or does this run deeper and is the story on behalf of the secret service or the monarchy?-
It’s hard to believe that, as it should be, an insti tutions finds real letters (possible) and then publishes them for the benefit of researchers; with the excuse of “privacy”, i.e. checking for the mention of currently living persons (they would have had to be rather young in 1954…)

I hope America isnt going to go to war sometime soon.. Thier armed forces wont survive deployment and setting up supply lines… There will be so much death and destruction as their pilots… (if they can be called such..) start up their planes/helicopters/ships and prompty drive them into the nearest obstacle…

They must be anticipating a lot of business! Chile positions itself as the main gateway to West Antarctica with plans for an International Antarctic Center. http://www.archdaily.com/878344/practica-unveils-design-for-international-antarctic-center-in-chile

I guess the time travellers, aliens, extra-dimensionnel ent1ties, Alien Space Gods and space brains all need somewhere to chill out (ba-doom-tss) after landing at Antarctica..
-
It is seriously time to invest in things down there, since it seems to be one of the world’s few growth areas.

This is bugging me..

Isn’t chlorine a component of mustard gas? I don’t know much about chemical warfare but this story made me wonder about Britain’s chemical warfare development since then. And then I thought how coincidental that the movie Dunkirk has just been released and is playing on circuit.
https://www.rt.com/uk/401103-chlorine-mist-beachy-head-uk/-
Yes, Chlorine is part of Mustard Gas. Mustard Gas is ClCH2CH2)2S and they wouldnt have had just breathing problems, they’d have had big pustules and burn marks all over their bodies.. Its pretty gruesome stuff..

Sounds like an appalling and tortuous death. Once again, morality missing from “scientific development”.
-
the Morality was.. this kills more people quicker than aiming and firing. Problem solved.
It is indeed tortous and painful.. AS Dr F found out, the Russians threaten to use this on Germans at Sebastopol because they were getting hammered by Air-Powder Bombs.. seeing as it was the Germans who invented this back in WW1, the threat was effective…[Read more]-
What a depraved world we live in where the “leaders” give themselves the choice of bad or terrible.

This story of a “chlorine cloud” crossing the Channel is strange, considering the constant winds and the presence of water. Sounds like propagand from World War I, when it would have been blamed on the Germans…
-
UI wonder if some Amercian Frigate carrying Chlorine was going through the Channel.. Maybe got rammed by a wooden fishing boat from spain and promptly sunk…

Up to 60 inches of rain in parts of Texas. Thoughts and prayers for those in the wake of this devastating storm.

Funny that there have been no weather control measures when you need them… or have there??

I hope as many people as possible are safe and all thoughts go out to GDS’ers in the path of this thing..

I wonder how that music actually sounded, and what kind of unmediated Affekt it had ? Not the old ‘original instrument’ argument, but unmediated by artificial electro-magnetism in the environment, ie, electricity. Was the quality of the music utterly different to what we have to suffer these days? I can imagine situations where afficionados may…[Read more]
