Actually, “l’Amiral” 😉 Had to look him up! Apparently, he was l’Amiral de Grasse (comte de Grasse), and his military grade was vice-admiral (English) or vice-amiral (French).
[But I’ll be lucky if I didn’t mess up the spelling of all that myself!]-
