Dawn Lester & David Parker offer a well organized volume “What Really Makes You Ill?” in which while should be read really places the general blame for illness on toxicity, however one brings into the body, and rejects the germ theory all the way back to Paracelsus “the poison is in the dose”.

I agree that lots of the supplements sold are substandard. I also agree that if you are generally healthy, with a healthy gut, a healthy diet, and a healthy lifestyle (that’s a lot of “if’s”), you probably don’t need supplements.
