This is one of the many comments under that article. I second it: When will the Orthodox Bishops in America and Canada finally speak out against this unjustified tyranny directed at Christians specifically and denounce the persecution of the Orthodox Church? WHEN?

Our courageous Protestant brethren are putting our bishops to shame. Many…[Read more]

I left the Greek Orthodox Church here in Northwest Ohio because I could no longer stomach the evil coming out of Constantinople. There is a video of the Patriarch informing his “little children” that we should be so grateful to God for his gracious gift of a COVID 19 vax. I think he got primed when Sam Brownback was over there last fall, and…[Read more]

    • I don’t blame you. Constantinople has been co-opted for a VERY long time, at least since Meletios Metaxis. The current occupant, Bartholomeios, was educated in Rome (what does THAT tell you?) and there are persistent rumors that C-ple gets funds from the US State Dept and the Clowns In America in addition to quiet subsidies from the papacy, all of…[Read more]

      • Thank you for the comment Joseph. In my area there are two Antiochian Orthodox churches, a Bulgarian Orthodox church as well as one Serbian Orthodox church within 30 minutes of my home. I am leaning toward looking at the Serbian church. I honestly feel like all of them in the USA are simply too westernized and controlled by TPT(shouldn’t)B.…[Read more]

        • I hate to say this, but you’re surest bet are the Serbs… although, while I will not elaborate, in my opinion ALL of the so-called canonical jurisdictions are quite simply, NOT

          • Again, thank you for the input! I had to laugh because when I converted a couple of years ago and joined the Greek church the priest said that the jurisdictions weren’t really canonical!!! Unfortunately, this priest is very much engulfed by the fake news and therefore, the COVIDIOT syndrome. God help us all. It grows bleaker by the minute for…[Read more]

    • I guess there are no Mark of Ephesus’ around…except maybe Kiril III (who was consecrated? on the Feast Day of Mark of Ephesus…no message there). If it keeps going this way, Russia may be the only bastion of Orthodoxy.

I understand your sentiment, but I’d argue that We, or at least our heads, have been underground for some time. It’s time to shake the dust out of our ears and mouths and start speaking out.

  • The Gatestone Institute does post some questionable information sometimes but this for the most part seems spot on https://www.zerohedge.com/political/when-everyone-kneels-who-will-stand-western-history-and-culture

    • We need to own the culture as Farrell and Fits discuss frequently. That means reading primary texts and studying classical music and art. We need to act to nourish the culture by using our talents to produce creative work that supports traditional western culture.

      • I agree but we are also a very small group. The wider problem I can see is that the majority can see something is wrong but do not know how to fight this cultural war/revolution that is taking place. We are in a very dangerous position: the younger people now entering the workplace do not have the same connection to Western civilisation and the…[Read more]

I’m not saying that you need to become a great composer or a great theologian. The Sacred History by Jonathan Black

    The Sacred History

    • Have you read this book? Any thoughts? The reviews on that website sound very much like promoting a one world religion trying to tie all the different Gods together. Would be interested to hear what someone who has read this thinks!

      • I had read the “The Secret History of the World” which was educational and interesting. I had just received this book.

Based on the YouTube short animation mentioned my friend mention something similar, the mixing God and Fallen one’s…I will continue to read but if anyone has any feedback of Jonathan BLACK (is his pen name, his real name is…[Read more]

  • A nice performance of BWV 548, “The Wedge” (so named for the shape of the fugue subject). This is the fugue I analyzed in Thrice Great Hermetica… although the Fugue, if you’re paying attention to Affektenlehre, might better be called “St Michael the Archangel versus the Serpent.” See if you can hear why. (And, while the performance is good, this…[Read more]

    • Doc, are you saying that Bach literally attempted to
” illustrate ” the scene of the Archangel through his music or is that a popular interpretation of the piece ?

      • No… I’m saying that IF one accepts Affektenlehre, and is fully cognizant of Bach’s deep commitment to Lutheran Christianity, that this will influence how one analyzes the score and performs the piece. Hence, this is my own interpretation. It would require me to argue that case from a careful walk through of the score. I can’t do that here, but…[Read more]

    • Fabulous interview. Greg Carlson is another “must hear” interviewer as he totally does his research and asks great questions.

      • Do you think so? I can’t bear him!

        • p.s. I subscribe for nuggets such as this, which is worth the monthly fee even if I only listen to a show one every 3 months. He does have some great guests and his podcast does well on the fact he mostly keeps his mouth shut and lets his guests speak. I do find him a bit virtue signally and childish if I’m honest.

          • His tone of voice is more than a little annoying but he does ask good questions and doesn’t interrupt to let us know how smart he is. That is not always the case with Dr. Farrell as some interviewers want to impress him with what they know. Frustrating.

            • I think if he was better prepared and I had a sense he had even read 10% JPF’s books cover to cover he’d be much a better host. He has improved over the past 5 years I’ve been listening to him and he does get less annoying. I do like an interviewer who is competent and able to ask question rather than just listen passively. I guess we all like…[Read more]

        • I like Greg’s interviews, maybe not all his subjects, but that’s just my preferences. This most recent interview with Dr Farrell demonstrated a far greater knowledge and grasp of geezer concepts…[Read more]

          • Yes I’ll give him credit on this interview, he did a good job on the bits I heard. I’m never impressed by his progressive views though, although these are waning. He is very warm on his interviews and doesn’t interrupt the host which are all great interviewing skills and he did do a really good job on that interview so full marks to him. Nice … I also enjoyed the linked video with organist Elske te Lindert explaining her interpretation and her approach to playing it …

  • One of my favorite things about the Baroque style was the practice of teaching composition by the method of “aliter fac”, (do otherwise), i.e., taking a theme from one of the masters, and developing it in an entirely different way. JS Bach did this all the time, and in some of his most famous pieces. A “little” example, if you can stand about 20…[Read more]

By “Regular Feature” I meant to say that @KatieB is an excellent candidate for regularly scheduled interviews with yourself! As for the community participating, heck! we have 9 of Scarmoge that I know would love to participate! haha!

  • OK Folks, our first ever members’ dialogue with Katie B in the UK is up in the members’ area. Unfortunately, I’m using a new platform, so the first hour or so was cut off for some reason, but it’s worth it anyway as she showed up (as usual) with lots of good comments and questions. So thanks to Katie B for kicking off our first ever members’…[Read more]

    • Definitely a must watch especially for those of us VidChat “watchers” who are always intrigued by a Katie B series of statements and questions! Brilliant!

    • I haven’t watched this YET but have been in many a vid chat where Katie’s questions (observations) have had my jaw on the floor .. That’s what I love about the vid chats .. the questions asked by members are literally out of this world ..

    • This was outstanding. A close watching of the broadcast allowed for all sorts of insights and dot connecting to happen. Katie, you did an excellent job of being prepared, asking really interesting questions and allowing the Doctor to really get into the flow of your discussion really right from the top. I vote this become a regular feature!

      • It being a regular feature is entirely dependent on whether or not members want to do one.
