I think it may be telling that President and Mrs. Carter decided not to attend. They are very old now, but I have to wonder if something else entered their decision… -

To me the scores allow you to watch these genius minds as they create. I always listen to music both without, and then with, and the without the scores… constantly back and forth -

I can’t agree more. I hope everyone understands this type of thing is what I mean by “owning the culture”. -

All of the cantatas are little miniature oratorios, little miniature masterpieces. Decades ago, Nicholas Harnoncourt recorded all of them on vinyl, and while that series isn’t my favorite, the one nice thing about it was that they included the complete scores in miniature of each cantata, which would now cost a fortune. -

An interesting article in some ways parallel to Morris Berman’s “monastic musings”: https://mailchi.mp/tomwoods/whattodonow?e=fd33b80786

What is also very apparent the opposing side becoming completely disenfranchised and often times ostricized by the governing authorities. Does this not strike parallels with the colonists just prior to the revolutionary war? It almost seems purposely done in a rather arrogant fashion.

I admit that I love it when the music accompanies these pieces. It has been a while since I was part of an orchestra or chorus, so listening to the alto, for example, by reading the music (since it is not the predominant voice) is particularly satisfying. Thank you, Dr. Farrell!
BTW, I received the Complete Flute Sonatas by JS Bach…

I’ll second the idea of minimizing exposure to the propatainment media. I’ve cut out most of the big name “conservative” media as well. I’d also heartily recommend Rothbard’s study Conceived in Liberty. UNfortunately, only the fifth volume is available cheaply. The others cost a bundle. The idea of local networks is good, but unfortunately…[Read more]-
I have the same problem with local networks, for the time being. I’ve thought a lot about how people not living in the same place can best create and maintain networks. I don’t have the answers, but I know it’s an important question.
