I think the real question is: did they ever truly “leave”? Or did the Empire just go corporate? That’s what I think.-

Sorry for the late reply, I wasn’t aware of GB 🇬🇧 and by extension the Queens reach even today, especially when it came to military forces. Why re-invent the wheel when The Commonwealth already exists? Surely it could be tweaked and adapted, as desired? The Commonwealth already has the institutional infrastructure and a long history of mostly successful, quiet co-operation on multiple areas of mutual interest.

If true, I hope Putin has trained his replacement already. Binden/Harris in U.S. = neocon foreign policy = antagonizing Russia = whole world is a more dangerous place.
