Always good to know what is going on in the world. This appears to indicate that it is understood that the “New Front” is a Semeiotic one. Why is this important? It is important in that the meaning of a sign (e.g. media images [of all kinds pictorial, linguistic]) is manifest in the interpretation that it generates in sign users with the…[Read more]

    • This reads as an escalation of “Normative Oversight” by the current power structure – a willingness to silence anyone or anything in the name of “Protecting” us against “Virtual Societal Warfare” . I can only end with the following: “Behold Your Masters”!!!

    • “Control the interpretation, control the behavior.” !!Doff!! I’m reminded of phase conjugation (if I understand it correctly): lasers back-propagating the original “shape”, “signature”, or “sign” of the Event. One may argue that we need to back-propagate our original Archetypical Sign meanings, ASAP.

Agreed…kudos to you. I have had a learning journey from both sides of the pond as our family has grown older….things never talked about when I was a kid by elders in the family due to the painful memories. I come from a long line of German History…many in our family (both sides) came as early to the US as they could from Hamburg. They…[Read more]

    • Wow! Thanks for sharing. I’ve been reading Iamblichus lately, and his stories on the teachings of Pythagorus. He tells of Pythagorus imploring young people to not only respect, but adore, and esteem the elderly. Often us youngsters look at the older generation as “out of touch” though, this couldn’t be further from the truth! These folks are a…[Read more]

    To my fellow Giza’s ..
There are over 4 thousand registered site members and only a dozen or so that post regularly .. I would like to encourage others to join in .. It’s such an eclectic intelligent group and it’s always interesting to see where others are traveling on their truth seeking journeys ..

    • Very true, though if there were , say, 100 or even 50 posts a day the format would have to be reconfigured in order to be legible.

      • Good point .. I didn’t think of that .. Hence I shall amend my appeal .. Not all 4000 .. I would be happy with 10 more .. Any takers? .. 🙂

        • I’m coming…just need to get more organized about saving/publishing my weekly finds. but will get there soon. Something on China coming shortly.

    • Yeah I agree. Maybe doc can update the format to something more streamlined

I just came back from Europe after spending a month with an Austrian friend. As Americans, we really can’t fathom the extent of sad stories many Europeans have had to suffer with little complaint from them. We may have relatives here that escaped, but those that stayed usually saw some pretty difficult to imagine situations, some that lasted…[Read more]

Hi ML light! I had to change my profile name to match my vidchat name. Just figured that out tonight. Duh! I’m still figuring out the forum and how it works. Thanks for the friend request.

  • Hi folks! I want to give you an update on what’s going on. I’m feeling better, and I am planning to have the vidchat which is scheduled for this Friday at 2PM US Central time. However, there may not be a News and Views tomorrow as there is a prediction of severe weather, which will put Shiloh into a tizzy and perhaps both of us into the storm shelter.

    • Joseph it sounds like you need to move to a more “acceptable” location, somewhere where you and Shiloh will be more comfortable, how about upper Mongolia or maybe Mars, which ever is the cheaper…………whooooops……….LOL
Oh and yeah, shouldn’t we be getting the 3 rd quarter wrap up soon, I know it depends on Solari, but I think there is a lot of an…[Read more]

Heidegger predicts this quite clearly in Being In Time. In my opinion, it was a major influence on his placing support behind the Nazi’s – which was considered a barbarous wrecking crew. People fail to appreciate the shock waves someone of his stature joining with national socialism induced in the liberal elite of the day.

BINGO! BlakeC. Scarmoge likes this. ML there’s plenty o’folks here. I know it’s not the same … you can’t come over and borrow an egg, a cup of sugar or a lawn mower, nevertheless, via this wonder of the modern world we are in a sense “next door.”

It’s a function of modernity as its been engineered to do just that, among other things. I have been paying attention to this for quite some time, and see examples of the malady you describe even among friends who date back several decades. Society has been engineered to pull us apart, to divert our attention and to habituate us towards a state…[Read more]

In one sense it depends on your purpose for having the Britannica. It has been argued by many, and I tend to agree, that the 11th /12th Edition (3 new volumes were produced in 1922 = 12th Edition) is one, if not the most interesting. It is interesting in that it gives you a grand picture of a world view that preceded but did not survive WW I.…[Read more]

    • My main reason is to add it to my book library and to be handed down to my son. I’m impressed by the English world preceding WWI and you’ve hit the nail on the head about it providing an overview of how things were thought about then. I’ll investigate Mr A J Jacobs also.

      • Nice! This edition would be a nice addition to your library. It is currently the most collectible Britannica. I’d be willing to bet that it will continue to be sought after in the future as well.

  • The following first part in a two-part presentation by the Amazing Polly, will flip your lid, especially those of us who find all the machinations in and around intelligence during the second world war fascinating. And to quote a certain Patristic Scholar, “The Germans, why is it ALWAYS the Germans! ;]

So, if cognition could be something other than computation, is it possible that the the only way for AI to be cognitive is for it to either be merged or blended with a cognitive entity (such a human being) OR, for it to be taken over or possessed by a cognitive entity (such as a non-corporeal consciousness)?

      • As to the first what you suggest, merging, sounds plausible. However, I’m not sure how one distinguishes between “working together” and truly being “merged” which I think you are hinting at in your question (merged or blended). My suspicion is that what we call consciousness is a result of a particular “ability” (the conversion of sensory input…[Read more]
