    Very nice. Do you know BWV 207? In the opening chorus, JSB takes a movement from the 1st Brandenburg Concerto and arranges the “violino piccolo” part for four-part choir, seemingly without effort.

              It’s an icon of St Photius the Great, which was given me by Dr Farrell in 1985 or 1986. The scroll he carries reads (in translation), “Beseech, O Photius, the Lord of all things to give peace to the world and to our souls.”

                      Mendelssohn is perhaps the most underrated of all underrated composers. Having equalled Beethoven in his Op 13 and Op 14 String Quartets, he then made it his business to try to equal J S Bach. He didn’t quite succeed, but he sometimes came close.
