					<span>Mendelssohn is perhaps the most underrated of all underrated composers. Having equalled Beethoven in his Op 13 and Op 14 String Quartets, he then made it his business to try to equal J S Bach. He didn&#8217;t quite succeed, but he sometimes came close.<br />
