Seems like a GREAT amount of trouble for so little result.-
Surely nowadays EVERYBODY – even “janitors” – know that all web connections, especially in official environments, are tracked in real time. On the other hand, the “news” about the alleged action (nobody charged!) seems just the type to make useless “work” for internet commentators.

Google Chrome has blocked my access to the latest Obersvatory blog. I was able to read it on another web browser – and I am not going to disclose which one in case google eyes decide to do something about it !

I wouldn’t recommend Chròme, it is known to have inbuilt tracking features.

Composers: parents and stepchildren. I distinctly heard the Canadian national anthem (supposed to have be composed by Lavallé in 1880). It’s one of the violin sonata Op. 5 Ns. 1-11.

We’re fortunate to have La Follia Austin Baroque and I enjoyed their recent Saturday afternoon concert with 2 performers on 4 beautiful harpsichords (2 Italian, 1 Franco-Flemish, 1 French) playing Buxtehude, Couperin, Rameau, and several Bach family pieces. Mostly an older audience but a few young people and children too 😉

Dr. Farrell often refers to Leonard Bernstein’s 1973 Norton lecture series on music that incorporates linguistics, poetry, philosophy, and physics. Listening to them now seems even more appropriate with the new book. Folks I want to thank everyone who has bought the new book. It just cleared that “magical threshold” I had in my head for this experiment, so I will like do all books in a self-published format in the future.

My granddaughter asked me if I had any ‘informational’ books she could read for school. I figured out, she meant non-fiction. Needless to say, I registered my objections to the term. It’s not easy helping our children/grandchildren navigate these times.

Ihave to contend with her parents. What I did do is give my grandson Rules for Argument. I’m advising develop an argument for alternative points of view as an intellectual exercise. My granddaughter will take a debate class this year. That should help.

Debate class? There are a few books around on how to argue a case and to detect and counter false arguments (such as when people, instead of replying on what you say, reply with personal labelling (e.g. “if you say that it means that you are a…”)

Yes, reading several books simultaneously is an excellent strategy for acquiring the skill of “connecting the dots” by osmosis. 🙂

Another resource or two to recommend … S. Morris Engel’s – With Good Reason. The earlier editions can be found very reasonably on Addall.com. The other would be An Illustrated Book of Bad Arguments by Ali Alsomossawi. The latter here a kind of “graphic comic” introduction to the fallacies for those who have no background.
