At the end of that very long interview I was unconvinced and somewhat annoyed. However i did watch the episode of the Monkees TV show with Buckley at the end, and I was intruiged. I will admit to being a long-time fan of The Cocteau Twins/ThisMortal Coil/Portishead etc, I even have some LPs, but I think Knowles’ assertion that Liz Frazier was possessed is just wishful thinking.
Hmmm ok Baz 🙂
Your thoughts on the interview Yiannis ? and the song in question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8L9xrus59Q in case you don’t know it.
It was a long interview, but I found it went by fast due to the probabilities alone , edge of the seat stuff. The dots and the math. Fascinating stuff IMO. What unconvinced and annoys you? This is way above my pay grade never heard Ct twins , Fraiser, real unexpected topic and I thought this Knowles nothing short of RainMan with his knowledge research and synthesis. It was Mind boggling actually, but I would have thought you would at best get the optics but annoyed ? Your IQ is probably several points higher than mine and with that I tend to be reactionary less measured. Ah dunno , my pipe needs a light…
I guess what annoyed me was the premise: a singer in an 80s electro-pop band was possessed by a Siren and being so possessed magickally caused the death by drowning of her ex-boyfriend whose father had written a song her band covered. What unconvinced me were the attempts at connecting certain events to a malign intent for no persuasive reason. I’m almost tempted to go back and re-listen to the interview in order to find out how someone having strange looking eyes and how red river-boat paddles and how singing in vocalese actually comports evidence of supernatural deeds. But I shalln’t do that and I’ll just put it all down to Carlwood having yet another loopy guest on his otherwise entertaining podcast. What might have convinced me to take it seriously would have been if Knowles had referenced Roxy Music’s album Siren and their song “Whirlwind” given that there is a putative allusion to artificially created hurricanes… 🙂
I’m not the biggest fan of Chris Knowles and his blog. He does draw fascinating inferences and is good at finding links by association but at the end of his blog posts I’m usually left thinking “and so?”. There’s something missing and “empty at the centre” about them to me…. almost like a kind of postmodernist esotericism/occultism (if there is such a phrase). Can’t really put my finger on it….
