      The Tempest, or The Enchanted Island is a comedy adapted by John Dryden and William D’Avenant from Shakespeare’s play The Tempest and first performed in 1667. In this play the angel Ariel dispenses some medical advice to a character who has been injured with a sword. Ariel’s advice is initially to “treat” or intend an effect upon the sword that caused the injury, before treating the injured person. Mapping from one context to another ? I therefore wouldn’t discount DJ’s speculation about the cloven pine so easily…
