Most younger folk wouldn’t know who McArthur was or even heard of him. Very sad, the blood and treasure America expended in the Sth Pacific is forgotten by many but NOT all..

To justawhoaman , Rheba & Bruce,
yes justawhoaman the public in Aus aren’t that much different than USA although distinct differences in perception of public officials and wealthy people are both different and vital . Americans look at the rich and think hey the success of the American drwam-Auusies look at the rich and think well he or she worked…[Read more] -

Rheba & Bruce// I think the issue being to close to the trees to see the forest is just the human condition regardless of your nationality. You are immersed 24/7 in it. I’m not.. Although you hab the additional burden of your history-one of service and nationalism, Aussies don’t trust any govt official or leaders. A fascinating example was 1943/44…[Read more]

The American-Aussie relationship is actually much simpler than you might think. The non-governmental public are nearly the same (thought I can sit and listen to your accents from NT to NSW and wish I could copy them – I can do the American versions) but those in govt. could not be more different. Yanks don’t have to deal with the Queen, at least…[Read more]

Your last post JP re Three Gorges dam. The CCP suggesting the same wall is elastic is nonsense . The steel Rio which clearly is faulty is elastic NOT the concrete matrix. The steel cages are bending beyond limits and are moving the wall mass with it. Failure will follow. Also it’s now unfixable . The corruption in civil construction in the 90s was…[Read more]

This is my thinking: it is bound to fail. I read somewhere, I forget where, that the block sections of the dam are not even anchored in the bedrock! Simply unbelievable!

I spent a month in Australia in 2018, a lifelong dream. In a sane world, I would return – insane, just a dream. I was there for Anzac Day and was in Sidney where I got to actually view the activities on a TV. It was very educational and as an American, I was completely ignorant before that. I love Australia – the place and the people. The…[Read more]
