My handwriting was deteriorated long before the computer age
My handwriting is pretty poor too. I used to struggle to read my father’s writing when I was a child and complained about it…. all these years later, when I compare our writing I see mine is much more illegible! My excuse could be that I am left handed…. the truth is I abandoned the writing style we were taught (cursive) a long time ago as unworkable for lefties and created my own.
I think the big missing factors for me (and perhaps most people) are CARE and ATTENTION given to the task. I am thinking of the Japanese calligraphy art where the paint brush is only put to paper when the mind is still and ready.
Western calligraphy has fine letter sets too

The idea that handwriting is redundant and possibly recalcitrant and thus immoral seems to be the underlying aim of the corporations that sell digital machines. Handwriting employs a proper form, a proper matter and a proper intent for cohering a sacrament which anatomizes Ratio.
