Hi Gabe. Thanks for this post! There are several Orthodox churches in the Toledo, OH metro area where I am near to. During Great Lent the parishioners all go to each other’s churches for the Wednesday evening for these Lenten services. It is a great way for Orthodox Christians to meet each other. NOT THIS YEAR…because of COVID-19. I can’t…[Read more]

    • Too bad you all aren’t in TX. As long as people agree to “social distancing”, Governor Abbott recognizes the large Christian population here and is allowing churches to be open.

A bit of whimsical fun: the Scherzo from Widor’s 8th organ symphony, played on Widor’s Cavaille-Coll organ at St. Sulpice de Paris by Yves Castagnet (organist of Notre Dame)… I love the creepy crawly upward half step modulations about half way through this piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahYBWM6xe1U

Church/Pipe organs in large resonant cavities such as stone churches always so damned difficult to make a proper recordings of. Spatial information is all over the place. Real 5:1 or 7:1 recordings might do it, i dunno, newer heard one.

Is it just me or does Dr. (Evil) Fauci seem to be reveling in his (rotting) “limelight”. All it takes is a couple of (psychotic) morning interviews and he can derail the President’s intentions and hopes in a few short hours. His little smirk is also pretty sick, if you ask me. I’m continually torn over this “crisis”. Is this a virus, no doubt (I…[Read more]

    • The disparity in numbers is more than a little disconcerting with reports saying ER’s are jammed and then skeptics find them empty. We have more than a little reason to question the severity, not of the virus, but of the numbers to conclude epidemic levels, let alone pandemic (PLANDEMIC, yes). It certainly isn’t at the infection rate in the US…[Read more]

Folks due to the length of the show with Daniel Liszt there won’t be a News and Views tonight.

    • That was one if my favorite interviews of you Joseph! I’m gong to rewatch it today – there was much to absorb.

    • Talk about “ripping yarns” .. This IS a classic .. Thank you Joseph for a grand interview ..

    • Dr. Farrell, thank you for the update. Always look forward to your weekly perspectives and lucid insight! Guess I will watch the video with Daniel then!

    • Duh. Thought there was a vid chat this week so apparently that is out, too!? Or was that the “news and views” reference?

      • I was taking it as a “news and views” reference. There was a vidchat last week so I think next week will be the one that begins at 2:30 CTZ (US Central Time Zone).

        • Having a problem with the “this week” interpretation and News and Views reference, I guess…. probably just lambing season.

    • This could be a good time for companies that actually MAKE something, and whose prime activity is not merely collecting cash to use for highly speculative “investments”. This has actually been the case of superstore chains: they vacuum up the cash by selling mostly cheap Asian products, forcing small businesses to close down. They are not really…[Read more]

    • Thanks, Scarmoge. I always thought I could write and then, when writing a master’s thesis, our department brought in an editor who absolutely tore our material apart. It was about structure, about language, and about content. It seemed painful at the time but it is clear that I “got it”. I have enjoyed writing ever since. That is why this…[Read more]

Thanks for the link Scarmoge. I’ve always wanted to write a science fiction series since I was a kid. When I do I will use an ancient style that employs allegories and symbolism. Think of Homer’s the Illiad or the book of Metamorphosis by the Roman poet Ovid.

What about this: putting down our own notes on the “Topological Metaphor” (at home and offline), each person will have a different starting point and thus a different contribution. Shall we give it, say, six months?

    • Gabe replied 6 years ago

Good idea. For the members that are interested we could do this with other disciplines and a member could take the liberty to organize something like for a certain discipline. Then members could decide which projects they would like to participate in depending on their expertise and interest.

This is an ideal time for creative initiatives, in whatever sphere. Such work can have unexpected and favourable consequences.

Good point, posting music or book links for example helps “raise the sights” to a broader dimension.

It’s reported to be a lockdown but the police have only got powers to disburse groups of people and they say only essential workers to carry on working but no formal law so plenty of businesses are still operating.
