I have to agree Kenny, for a number of reasons: (1) it’s not worship but pious entertainment, and NOT the kind JS Bach was thinking of, and (2) much of the “theology” contained in that “gospel music” is…well, “sub-par”

Interesting too you mention his fascination with dance. I’m reading a book right now for pleasure by Wilfred Mellers called Bach and the Dance of God.

Here’s another fun animation from the St Matthew Passion, one of my favorite sections in the piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXPUOk4-5Gg

This is one of my faves… the four winds…!! There’s a fun animated version of this on youtube that sort of let’s people who can’t read music get an idea of what’s going on…. Zerreisset zersprenget zertruemmert die Gruft! I ove all the Affekt in this, especially the endless busy-ness of the “four winds” Good choice.…[Read more]

205 is pretty cool in my book; that vid was unusual; I placed the whole cantata in the Forum (Whither music ?) some days ago
-
when I was a young amateur singer one of the best things I did was “shouting” Bach….that is, giving the music your whole voice….this cantata still gives me the goosebumps

Once again .. Rich takes what could have been an EPIC interview and turns it into “The Far Side of Mid-Flight” … STARRING Richard C. Hoagland .. having his INVITED guests pleading .. “if you will just allow me to finish” or “if I may” with INCESSANT interruptions throwing the guests trail of thought out the window … Talk about COOLING…[Read more]

Im so glad Im not the only one! (btw, i saw your “netflix” recommend? I will go and chk that out! ) Ill trade ya one JPF mentioned on the vidchat.. It’s called “Tims Vermeer” (netflix) and it shows how Vermeer may have used a prism, or other optical toy to view “his scene” and then he could paint down, while looking sideways.. PS folks… this new sound system predicament will only be temporary, as I’ve ordered some equipment to correct it, but for now, what I said before remains in effect, and you’ll have to get your vidchat questions in BEFORE the actual prechat audio-video feed begins, because I will have no way to print them off.

VIDCHAT TOMORROW!! NEW PROCEDURES GUYS!!! Because of my new sound system, I will NOT BE ABLE to print off questions after pre-chat video and audio feeds have begun, so from now on youβre going to have to get your questions in PRIOR TO chat.

@joseph i just wanted to mention: im just getting used to how to get around in here. For instance, come in, and see what Joseph may have said, (or someone else I make friends with :–) so….. bare/bear w/ me.. OK.. that said.
Joseph, I’ve finally gotten enough content on “where you are” in relation to your belief guidelines/barriers and…[Read more]

I recently bought some books about my favorite artistic era and its aesthetic, the Baroque. In reading some of these books all night, I discovered – in one of those “discoveries” that was both a surprise, and yet, fully expected – that it has much to do with the book I am researching and planning to begin writing this year.
-
Fascinating how that works, isn’t it π

Well I guess not. I have tested a new microphone, a professional studio quality mic, and so far it sounds good. I hope this will make vidchats and dialogues better sound quality. Keep your fingers crossed I wired everything correctly. If there’s a major blackout in the USA, you’ll know I didn’t!
