Related to “Microcosm and Medium”. In the classic “In Search of the Miraculous” by P.D. Ouspensky, a distillation of Gurdjieff’s teachings by the Russian philosopher, there are detailed sections on the significance of musical octaves, for example how variants in wave forms impact on day to day events in the microcosm.
-
I’ve been trying to get through that book for a while now, it’s a tough one to get a grip on, at least for me.
-
In the “lighter”tales of “Meetings with Remarkable Men” by G. there is frequent mention of music and dancing; the film of the same name shows a “challenge” between master musicians somewhere in Central Asia. If we “translate” the discussions of octaves and harmonics in the “Search” into more contemporary parlance (G. uses deliberately odd…[Read more]

Ah, and who defines “high risk areas”? The “authorities”, who present “weather data” doctored with “climate change” medicine.
-
… maybe I just don’t understand … is there not a connection between insurance and risk? If it were not for “risk” would there be any need for insurance companies? Oh … wait … now I understand … the connection is not between insurance companies and risk it is between insurance companies and casinos. The “house/company”…[Read more]

I’m not surprised the scientists in the article are perplexed. As one of them says, it’s, “a pattern produced by the brain.” This assumes, as does all reductionist ‘scientific’ thinking, that the brain creates consciousness . If we don’t make that assumption, then I think it all becomes rather less perplexing. The hatch pattern is acknowledged…[Read more]

As the former owner of a now defunct bookshop in Liverpool, I warmly welcome any move that may lure those who may wish to buy books away from the all-conquering Amazon. Many an independent book shop in this coundry has perished at end Geoff Bezos’ ruthless sword.

Dr. Farrell often refers to Leonard Bernstein’s 1973 Norton lecture series on music that incorporates linguistics, poetry, philosophy, and physics. Listening to them now seems even more appropriate with the new book. I’ve had Beauregard a year now. He was a 5 month old rescue when I got him. If I’m reading he settles down nicely for half an hr. He gives me a short mmn ending on a higher note. That means ‘are you done?’ I can say, give me 5 min and he’ll ‘sigh’ his ok. Then in about 10, he’ll say mmmm in an up and down sing song tone. That means, ‘are you…[Read more]

Well, it’s three months now since little Shiloh adopted me, and she says I’m doing much better about interpreting her whines, so she has moved on to barking and teaching me what each one means. This is a good sign that I’m settling in, she says, because she hadn’t barked for the first month and a half in order not to confuse me. She also reports…[Read more]
