(3) there is also an assumption about how computers might solve the problem. It seems they assume binary computing type problem solving. What about some of the cryptographic solution methods that have undercut some of these exponentially increasing numbers of calculations? I am sure the maths geniuses will come up with ever more clever ways of…[Read more]

(2) there is an implicit assumption that “memory” requirements are physical and we would “run out of atoms for storage”. What about non-local information? Clearly this is not in the mechanist worldview underpinning this article/”proof”

even I, non-expert in this field, can suggest there may be a couple of problems in this “proof” such as:
(1) Why only the Monte Carlo statistical technique, why not other techniques? Are there other techniques? The article doesn’t say. Here is a book that talks about alternative ideas on solving the Schrodinger equation…[Read more] -

While it would be nice if this were conclusive “proof” we’re not virtual reality game players, it doesn’t seem so conclusive to non-expert, layman me.

Oh dear, I do not see this as good news for peer to peer efforts. Once Goldman Sachs gets involved, it’s definitely a rigged game.

China is planning for more IT security resources. This article is glossing the intiatives with a cyber warfare motivation but I think this is more to do with an economy diversifying outwards from manufactured goods and now needing more robust IT to support this. Having worked in IT infrastructure and having several friends and former colleagues…[Read more]

If you want to “bring round” a country to your way of thinking, why would you cut internet links to sources of information that might provide this alternative view? Answer: you wouldn’t. So Russia opens a new one and China keeps their internet link open… but this article seems to suggest that the US would want to cut the internet to N. Korea,…[Read more]

US Imperial law applies to citizens and residents of vassal states. Is this (another) test case since Kim Dotcom is somewhat of a pariah figure (at least to some)?

Although malaria is a problem, everything about the idea of genetically modified mosquitoes screams “no” to me…. Many things to go wrong and lots of ways to drive a hidden biowarfare agenda.
When I was in Mozambique 2 years ago, my experience of the malaria issue is that it was under control. Doctors and clinics are geared up for it and…[Read more] -

A couple weeks ago, I looked at some photographs of North Korea post the US bombing in the 1950s… the devastation was appalling. What’s interesting about these images is how the threat/devastation is reinterpreted in a “medieval” style, with for instance axes (up close and personal) doing the killing instead of bombs (far off and impersonal). I…[Read more]

@esteyman1, the member content including all the video dialogue, vidchats etc. is under a different navigation tab. If you go to the tab “Members” you should see a menu item for “All Member Content” which has everything presented by date order.

Well, perhaps user hardware will become more “locked down” but the cloud on the backend with all its data as well as the network for delivery of the content to the user will still need hardware and lots of it

Plant trees…. not for the improvement of the environment (why would we ever do that) but because they will be needed to make cars. A new kind of car-pentry ? 🙂
